Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) is the central government's direct income support scheme for small and marginal land-holding farmers. Launched in December 2018, the scheme transfers ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments of ₹2,000 directly into the bank accounts of eligible farmers.
Eligibility
All land-holding farmers' families with cultivable land are eligible, subject to specific exclusion criteria. The scheme covers the entire family — husband, wife and minor children — as a single beneficiary unit.
Exclusion criteria

- Constitutional post holders, former and current
- Former and current Ministers, MPs, MLAs
- Officers and serving Group A officers of central and state government, PSUs
- Pensioners drawing pension above ₹10,000 per month (except multi-tasking staff)
- Income tax payers
- Professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants who practice
How to apply
Visit the PM-Kisan portal (pmkisan.gov.in) or the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC). Fill the Farmer Registration form with Aadhaar, mobile number, bank account details (with IFSC), and land records (Khata-Khasra). The application is verified by the state Patwari and Tehsildar before approval.
Documents required

- Bank account passbook (with IFSC)
- Land records — Patta, Khata, Khasra, or RTC documents
- Mobile number for OTP and SMS updates

eKYC requirement
eKYC through Aadhaar OTP is mandatory for receiving installments. Without eKYC, the installments are paused. Complete eKYC at the PM-Kisan portal, the PM-Kisan mobile app, or any CSC.
Installment schedule
- First installment — April to July
- Second installment — August to November
- Third installment — December to March
How to check installment status
Visit the PM-Kisan portal, click "Beneficiary Status", and enter Aadhaar number or registration number or mobile number. The portal shows the status of all installments, including bank account validation and DBT transfer dates.
Common reasons for stuck installments
Pending eKYC, Aadhaar mismatch with bank account, IFSC code error, Aadhaar not linked with bank, name mismatch between Aadhaar and bank records, or land record verification pending at Tehsildar level. Most issues can be resolved at a CSC or by updating bank records.
Maan Dhan Yojana — pension for farmers
Eligible PM-Kisan beneficiaries can additionally enrol in the PM Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana (PMKMY) for a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹3,000 after age 60. Contributions are ₹55 to ₹200 per month depending on age, matched 1:1 by the central government.
